Colorless and transparent liquid, boiling point approximately 66℃, density 1.273g /mL (at 25℃), volatile and decomposes upon contact with water to form hydrochloric acid and white precipitate. It has a low flash point (5°F) and is a flammable liquid. It must be stored strictly in a sealed container away from water.
Physical and chemical properties
Lytic response ：Rapid reaction with water to form hydrochloric acid and polysiloxane.
Alcoholysis reaction: Reacts with alcohols to form alkoxysilanes.
Reaction with ammonia/ammonia:Formation of amino silane.
Reducibility ：Can be reduced to methylsilane (CH₃SiH₃) by lithium aluminum hydride (LiAlH₄)
Heat endurance ：It may be cracked at high temperature (> 300°C) to release HCl or form siloxane.
Application
Semiconductor Industry: Precursor for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of silicon carbide (SiC) films and low-κ dielectric layers.
Silicone Synthesis: Building block for cross-linked silicones, resins, and hydrophobic coatings.
Surface Treatment: Imparts water repellency to glass, ceramics, and fillers.
Fumed Silica Production: Intermediate in manufacturing high-purity silica nanoparticles.
